Rescue Media Update For
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 SP4

Media Information

Details

This ISO image contains fixes for booting into Rescue mode with SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 12 Service Pack 4 on POWER systems.

This update media addresses the following issue:

Unable to boot and enter rescue mode

The rescue system boots with multipath disabled and LVM enabled. On a system with many multipath devices that is using LVM this can result in very long boot time or inability to boot the rescue system at all.

The updated media enables multipath on boot which allows booting the rescue system even in presence of large number of multipathed LVM volumes.

Background: multipath is disabled in the rescue system because it should be enabled only when the customer system is using multipath and the SLE12 multipath tools cannot detect multipath hardware. Under normal circumstances the customer can enable multipath when appropriate once the rescue system boots. This fix is provided for the case when disabled multipath prevents booting the rescue system at all.

This media is not appropriate for systems that do not have multipath hardware.

Usage

Only use this media if you encounter issues booting into the rescue system and believe it's related to the issue described above

Use this ISO image to boot into the rescue system as normal with the full installation media.

NOTE: This media only contains the initial bootstrapping system and rescue system images. The package repositories for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server are not included. This media is meant just for booting into the rescue system.
